What was the Unidos Hablemos de… (United, Let’s Talk about…) Virtual Conference Series?

‘Unidos Hablemos de…’ was a series of six monthly virtual events held from October 2021 to March 2022. The virtual events were available in both Spanish and English languages.

We connected with people from the Hispanic and Latino community to address asthma and COVID-19. Together, we discussed how to better understand…

  • the impact of asthma and COVID-19 in the Hispanic/Latino community;
  • what people in the community need to improve asthma care and stay safe from COVID-19.

Session 1:  United, Let’s Talk About…Facing the Pandemic: Living with Asthma and COVID in the Hispanic/Latino Community – October 7, 2021

  • A discussion about the asthma prevalence and management;
  • An examination of asthma and COVID-19 disparities;
  • A discussion about the COVID -19 variants and the COVID Long Haul and
  • Patients will share real – world experience living with asthma and COVID

Session 2:  United, Let’s talk about… The importance of including Latinos in asthma and COVID studies – November 4, 2021

Session 4:  United, Let’s talk about… Hispanic patients with asthma and COVID-19 discuss Conversations with Trusted Messengers – January 6, 2022

  • The COVIDLatino Project is focused on providing critical and timely information to ease the burden of COVID-19 on the Latino communities through a collective of academic institutions, community-based organizations, researchers, advocates and artists who have created culturally-tailored and empirically-based COVID-19 information.
  • Cultural beliefs about asthma associated with the influence and treatment behaviors among the Latino community.
  • Families’ knowledge and treatments for asthma influenced by traditional cultural beliefs and practices that impact clinical treatments.
  • Strategies to approach medical visits with greater knowledge and appreciation of our cultural practices to complement our own treatment plan by educating medical providers with our cultural practices to be incorporated or used in conjunction with traditional asthma treatments.

Session 5:  United, Let’s talk about… Hispanic patients with asthma and COVID-19 discuss Living Through the Pandemic: The Intersection of Asthma and COVID-19 – February 3, 2022
