SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, NOVEMBER 7, 2016 – Allergy & Asthma Network will spotlight patient-centered care, stock albuterol in schools, asthma disparities and telemedicine at its 2016 Asthma Coalition Summit, Friday, Nov. 11, during the 2016 American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (ACAAI) Annual Scientific Meeting in San Francisco.
For the second consecutive year, the Network is partnering with ACAAI in hosting the Summit, which brings together representatives from asthma coalitions, state asthma programs, federal agencies, stakeholders and partners in asthma care. Together they will discuss strategies to advance guidelines-based asthma care and advocacy issues.
“The Asthma Coalition Summit is an informative, engaging forum where participants will hear from nationally recognized experts about trends in asthma management and treatment, and offer feedback during roundtable discussions,” says Tonya Winders, president and CEO of Allergy & Asthma Network.
Bryan Martin, DO, 2016 ACAAI president, will address disparities in asthma care and explain why where you live matters in terms of asthma prevalence and treatment. Other topics include: innovative approaches to asthma management, building a successful healthcare team, how state legislative and Medicaid policy changes impact asthma treatment, and school-based asthma management programs.
In addition to hosting a booth (#719) in the Exhibit Hall at ACAAI’s annual meeting, the Network will conduct asthma screenings and provide educational materials at the Embarcadero Sunday Streets event on Sunday, Nov. 13 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. PT. Screenings include spirometry breathing tests and a consultation with a board-certified allergist.
“Asthma rates among San Franciscans is 13.2 percent, according to California Department of Public Health data; among children and teenagers, the percentage increases to 23.2 percent,” Winders says. “If symptoms are not addressed early on, they can worsen over time and become life-threatening. We are excited to raise awareness of asthma and allergies in the Bay Area and make a positive impact in the community.”
