More than 24 million people live with asthma in the United States, but there is still relatively little public understanding about “what is asthma” and its full impact on quality of life. As a result, the burden of living with asthma is underappreciated and the voice of patients and families is often missing from key decisions and initiatives.

In 2015, Allergy & Asthma Network took the lead on raising awareness and understanding of asthma by hosting the first USAsthma Summit, in conjunction with the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) and with the support of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The goal of the USAsthma Summit is to bring together representatives from asthma coalitions and state asthma programs, school nurses, community health workers, pediatricians and other stakeholders from across the country to share lessons learned and best practices, as well as brainstorm strategies to advance Guidelines-based asthma care throughout the United States, especially in underserved communities.

Since the first USAsthma Summit in 2015, Allergy & Asthma Network has hosted more than 2,500 people in person and remotely (via livestream), with representation from all 50 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. (Our previous USAsthma Summits: 2015 – San Antonio; 2016 – San Francisco; 2017 – Boston; 2018 – Seattle; 2019 – Houston)
