VIENNA, VA, MAY 19, 2021 – What is the spring allergy outlook where you live? What weather factors are in the forecast that could trigger an asthma flare? Do current conditions where you live make the flu virus more easily transmissible? Allergy & Asthma Network is partnering with Weather Trends International to provide weather forecasting and analysis for people with asthma and allergies.

If you live with asthma or allergies, managing your triggers to avoid symptoms is a part of everyday life. Sudden temperature changes, heat and humidity, thunderstorms and cold, dry air can inflame the airways and lead to asthma flare-ups. The presence of pollen in the spring, summer and fall can result in bothersome allergy symptoms.

Weather Trends International, experts in weather and seasonal forecasting for Fortune 500 companies around the world, developed an index that provides daily and weekly forecasts for asthma, allergies and the flu.

The index, now available at AllergyAsthmaNetwork.org/Weather, helps people with asthma and allergies plan for changes in weather and gauge outdoor allergens and irritants. The asthma and allergy indices help patients determine which days they may experience symptoms. The flu index highlights periods when the flu may be more easily transmitted if the virus is present.

“We’re excited to partner with Weather Trends International and expand our patient education resources to include weather forecasting for asthma and allergy triggers and flu transmission,” says Tonya Winders, President and CEO of Allergy & Asthma Network. “Their daily and week-ahead forecasts will help patients and families avoid triggers – a key part of any treatment plan.”

“We’re thrilled to bring this revolutionary technology to Allergy & Asthma Network,” says Bill Kirk, CEO of Weather Trends International. “Proactive forecast information on how weather influences these diseases weeks, months and a year ahead will be freely available to the 50+ million in the United States who suffer from these chronic diseases in hopes of making their lives a little better with a little less suffering.”

The webpage also offers in-depth information on how the weather impacts asthma and allergy symptoms and how to manage weather-related symptoms.
