Statement on 2025 Federal Budget Reconciliation Bill Becoming Law
Published: July 9, 2025
Fairfax, VA – Allergy & Asthma Network CEO Lynda Mitchell issued the following statement regarding the House and Senate passage and signing into law of the federal budget reconciliation bill on July 4, 2025:
Allergy & Asthma Network is deeply concerned for patients, hospitals and clinics with the enactment of the 2025 federal budget reconciliation bill, also referred to as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (H.R. 1). This legislation will deliver a devastating blow to the significant progress made in securing healthcare access and affordability since enactment of the Affordable Care Act in 2010.
The measure will strip healthcare coverage from nearly 17 million Americans on Medicaid and Affordable Care Act coverage, including patients who rely on lifesaving care for chronic conditions such as asthma and severe allergies. The cuts in this legislation will lead to coverage loss, hospital closures in rural communities, reductions in food assistance programs, and diminished access to critical and timely care.
Equally concerning are the sweeping cuts made to clean energy. These actions undermine advancements toward a more reliable and resilient energy system, putting patients and the entire healthcare infrastructure at risk. When combined with the escalating impacts of climate change, this bill stands to deepen disparities in health and environmental protections, leaving millions of people without access to lifesaving resources and further compromising the quality of air in their communities.
While the impacts of this legislation will be felt by all Americans, regardless of their insurance status (from loss of coverage to cost-sharing for Medicaid enrollees, and projected higher premiums overall), Allergy & Asthma Network is committed to working with policymakers to ensure its implementation is thoughtful and equitable.
