FAIRFAX, VA – Allergy & Asthma Network CEO Lynda Mitchell issued the following statement regarding the confirmation of Dr. Marty Makary as Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA):

Allergy & Asthma Network congratulates Dr. Marty Makary on his confirmation as the Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Sitting at the helm of the world’s leading health product regulator, amidst a time of significant workforce shortages, Dr. Makary faces the difficult task of leading an agency entrusted with improving food safety and the approval of vital medical treatments.

We are eager to collaborate with Dr. Makary to improve access to critical treatments for the millions of adults and children living with allergy, respiratory, skin, and immune disorders, including the 25+ million people with asthma nationwide. Dr. Makary’s confirmation comes at a crucial moment in our nation’s healthcare history. FDA is tasked with sound policy development, safe issuance of treatments and streamlined approval processes that eliminate barriers to access.

We anticipate Dr. Makary’s clinical and evidence-based leadership will uphold the FDA’s gold standard of trusted science, transparency and common sense, as expressed in his own words, to ensure greater availability of affordable treatments on the market.”
