Summary
Barriers to effective treatment of urticaria are often due to a discrepancy in physician and patient perceptions, making shared decision making essential to quality care. Dr. Marissa Shams leads a discussion on the presentation, management and step up therapeutic approach for chronic urticaria. She also includes treatment for special populations including children, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and elderly patients.
Webinar Objectives
At the end of the learning experience, the learner should be able to:
- Compare/contrast the presentation, treatment, and evaluation of acute versus chronic urticaria
- Describe the step-up therapeutic approach for chronic urticaria, including management of special populations (pediatrics, pregnancy/lactation, elderly)
- Implement a guideline-directed approach to management as well as consideration of alternative agents in refractory cases
