We are distressed and saddened to see the pain of racial injustice in our country. As a national nonprofit patient education and advocacy organization, our mission is rooted in civic and social responsibility and we stand with those who seek a more just society.
Raising awareness of asthma disparities and improving access to care are among our key policy priorities. African-Americans face significantly higher rates of hospital visits and death due to asthma than other ethnicities. It is heartbreaking to see similar disparities emerge during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Let us find hope in community and unite to find solutions that advance equity, not only in healthcare but in all aspects of life. We will reflect on how we can better use our voice to help those who deserve equality, listen to those who are angry and hurting, and strive to come together for a better future – for all.
